Forty - "The number forty is symbolic at times. It is primarily linked with devine testing ar punishment (Genusis 7:4,12,17; 8:6; Numbers 14:33;32:13; John 3:4; Matt 4:2).It is also associated with the giving of law(Exodus 24:18) and is the span of time within which Jesus showed himself on earch after the resurrection." Pg.292 of The Zondervan Expository Dictionary of the Bible Words.
It rained forty days and forty night during the flood but Noah was on the ark for much longer waiting for the water to receed.
This is mainly here so I won't have to pull out this big book any time i want to see this. I am researching the number forty in the bible. If anyone knows anything else about the number 40 please let me know.
